Grant Purposes

Health and Safety Code Section 771.051(a)(1) authorizes CSEC to “administer the implementation of statewide 9-1-1 service and the poison control network, including poison control centers under [Health and Safety Code Chapter] 777.”  CSEC awards grants to fund these two programs to:

-        23 Regional planning commissions to provide 9-1-1 service

-        6 health care facilities designated in Health and Safety Code § 777.001 to provide toll-free telephone referral and information service to the public and health care professionals

CSEC grant expenditures are shown on the Texas Transparency website provided by Comptroller’s Office.

The 84th Legislature, Regular Session, Article IX, Sec 18.23, Contingency for HB479 and HB2004, authorizes the CSEC to award grants in fiscal years 2016 and 2017 for:                     

          -    Regional emergency medical dispatch resource centers.

         -    A pilot project to provide emergency telemedicine medical services in rural areas.
