The CSEC recognizes the need to take advantage of the advances in information and communications technologies and the output of the United States (US) Department of Transportation NG9-1-1 System Initiative (NG 9-1-1 Initiative) and the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) (Next Generation 9-1-1 Project)
On January 17, 2008, the Commission authorized staff to proceed with a Next Generation 9-1-1 Planning Project.
